The Hristo Vitchev / Jivko Petrov Duo Project brings together American-Bulgarian modern jazz guitarist Hristo Vitchev and acclaimed Eastern European pianist Jivko Petrov.

In this intimate duo setting, Vitchev and Petrov explore the richly colored soundscape of our dynamic, cross-cultural world. Drawing inspiration from the many places, traditions, and experiences that have shaped them, they create music with an unmistakable sonic identity—lyrical, adventurous, and deeply personal.

Their natural chemistry, both onstage and off, lies at the heart of the project. Each is an established bandleader with an extensive discography and multiple award-winning albums. Together, they are now working on the duo’s debut recording.

Born in Bulgaria and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Vitchev creates impressionistic music that draws on classical, modern jazz, folk, and avant-garde traditions. His imaginative compositions, lyrical improvisations, and distinctive harmonic language have earned praise from critics and audiences alike.

He has performed at prestigious jazz clubs and festivals around the world and has presented guitar clinics throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.

Jivko Petrov

Jivko Petrov is one of Eastern Europe’s most accomplished and distinctive modern jazz pianists. His acclaimed trio, JP3, has released multiple award-winning recordings and appeared at many of Europe’s leading jazz festivals and clubs.

Petrov is also a prominent figure in Bulgaria’s music scene. As a composer, arranger, and performer, he has contributed extensively to film and television and collaborated with some of the country’s biggest pop artists.

Equally at home in jazz and classical music, Petrov has captivated audiences for decades with his unmistakable touch, expressive voice, and commanding presence at the piano.

JP3’s latest album, On the Way, became a notable release on American jazz radio in 2023, earning a prominent position on the JazzWeek charts.
